# Student Moves in NYC Around Your Term Dates

Every May and every late August, it feels like half of Greenwich Village and Morningside Heights is moving on the same weekend. We plan student moves around the NYU and Columbia calendars, from a dorm room to a sublet, a shared apartment or our storage for the summer.

Roommates can share one truck and split the bill, and parents can book and pay from out of state. Text or chat for a reply in under a minute, or call (212) 555-0142.

## Do you offer student moves in NYC?

Yes. We move students between dorms, shared apartments and sublets across the city, and into storage over the summer. Student moves use our normal rate of $165 an hour for two movers and a truck with a 3-hour minimum, and roommates moving the same day can share one truck. We check your dorm’s or building’s move-in and move-out rules before the day. Book early for May and late August, when every school in the city moves at once.

**Typical job (example prices):** Most dorm-room and shared-apartment moves within the city finish within the 3-hour minimum: $495. Two or three roommates sharing a truck often split a 3–4 hour job.

- **Best for:** Dorms, shares and sublets
- **Quote details:** Photo of your room + dates
- **Base:** Brooklyn, NY

## When a student move is the right choice

Student moves are small but rarely simple. Dorms hand out fixed time slots, the elevator is shared with everyone on your floor, and the street outside is lined with other trucks and family cars. A crew that knows the rhythm of May and August gets you in and out on time, and you don’t spend move-out day hunting for a cart.

Typical jobs for us are a dorm room near Washington Square going to a share in Bushwick, a Columbia grad student moving from Morningside Heights to Astoria, or three roommates loading one truck and splitting the drop-offs. Plenty of students keep their things with us over the summer and have them delivered to a new place in the fall.

### What to send for a quote
- Your move-out and move-in dates, plus any dorm time slots
- A photo or short video of your room
- Both addresses, or “storage” if you don’t have the new one yet
- How many roommates are moving with you
- Who’s paying, if it’s a parent

## Who this service is for

- **You’re moving out of a dorm and into an off-campus apartment**
- **You and your roommates are moving to a new share on the same day**
- **You need your things stored over the summer or a semester abroad**
- **You’re a parent booking a move for a student from out of town**
- **You’re graduating and moving from a dorm into your first lease**
- **You only have a room’s worth of things, but four flights of stairs**

## When another service is a better fit

We would rather point you to the right service than squeeze every job into the same box.

- [Storage](https://leadkeet.com/website-templates/brightside/demo/storage/): If you’re leaving the city for the summer, storage with pickup and delivery may be all you need.
- [Man With a Van](https://leadkeet.com/website-templates/brightside/demo/man-with-a-van/): For a few boxes and a desk going a short way, a van is easier to park near a busy campus.
- [Studio Moves](https://leadkeet.com/website-templates/brightside/demo/studio-moves/): If you’re graduating into a studio of your own with real furniture, a studio move covers the stairs and the building paperwork.

## How we quote this kind of job

1. **Tell us your dates:** Send your move-out and move-in dates, both buildings and any time slot your dorm has given you.
2. **Show us your room:** A quick photo or video is enough. We confirm the time, the price and whether roommates can share the truck.
3. **Move on the day:** Two movers load your things, drive and carry them in, or take them to storage until you’re back.

## Student Moves questions answered

### How far ahead should I book for May or August?
Four to six weeks ahead for the end of the spring term and for late-August move-in. Those weekends fill first because every school in the city moves at once.

### Can my roommates and I share a truck?
Yes. If you’re all moving on the same day, we load everyone together and do the drop-offs in turn, and you split the bill however you like.

### Can you store my things over the summer?
Yes. We pick up at move-out, keep your boxes and furniture in our Brooklyn warehouse and deliver to your new place in the fall.

### Can my parents book and pay?
Yes. Parents can book by text, chat or phone and pay by card, and we keep the student in the loop on the day.

### Do dorms have special move rules?
Most set move-in and move-out windows and their own loading rules. We check your building’s and your block’s rules before the day and plan around your slot.
