Furniture Movers in NYC for Pieces That Won’t Fit the Stairs

New York stairwells and hallways weren’t built for sectional sofas. We take apart what’s designed to come apart, remove legs and doors where needed, and carry big pieces through the tight turns of brownstones, walk-ups and prewar buildings.

When a piece truly won’t go up the stairs, we can quote a hoist after checking your building’s and your block’s rules. Text or chat a photo for a reply in under a minute, or call (212) 555-0142.

Quick answer

Do you offer furniture moving in NYC?

Yes. We move large furniture across the five boroughs, North Jersey and Westchester, including sectionals, sleeper sofas, beds, wardrobes and dining sets. It’s $165 an hour for two movers and a truck with a 3-hour minimum, or one agreed price from photos. Taking pieces apart and rebuilding them is included, and everything is blanket-wrapped. Hoisting through a window is quoted separately after we check the building.

Typical job · Example pricesMoving a few large pieces within the city usually finishes within the 3-hour minimum: $495, including taking them apart and putting them back together. Hoists are quoted after a site check.

When a furniture move is the right choice

Choose a furniture move when the hard part is the pieces themselves, not the number of boxes. Big sofas, solid wood wardrobes, platform beds and dining tables are what get stuck on brownstone stairs and in prewar hallways, and they need people who know when to take something apart and when to stand it on end.

Typical jobs for us are a sectional going from a Chelsea walk-up to a new place in Greenpoint, a wardrobe that has to come apart to leave a Bay Ridge apartment, or a dining set moved between two apartments in the same Riverdale building. If you’re moving everything else too, an apartment move quote includes the furniture.

Chat now
Do you take apart and rebuild furniture?

Yes, it’s included. Beds, wardrobes, tables, desks and sectionals are taken apart and rebuilt, with all the hardware bagged and labeled.

Can you get my sofa up a narrow staircase?

Often, yes, by removing the legs, standing it on end or taking off the back where it’s built to come off. We check your photos and measurements before the day.

Do you hoist furniture through windows?

When a piece really won’t fit inside, we can quote a hoist after a site check. We check your building’s and your block’s rules before the day.

Do you protect furniture and floors?

Yes. Every piece is blanket-wrapped, sofas go in plastic covers, and we lay floor runners and pad the door frames at both ends.

Can you move flat-pack furniture without breaking it?

Yes. Some flat-pack pieces travel better taken apart and some fully built. We’ll tell you which, and rebuild them carefully at the other end.

Do you move furniture within the same building?

Yes. Room-to-room and floor-to-floor moves are welcome, and they usually finish within the 3-hour minimum.
