Meet the teamI started Example Movers in 2014 with one truck, two friends and a simple idea: New York moves are hard enough without a moving company making them harder. No surprise fees at the end of the day, no crews who disappear for an hour, no damaged doorframes in a building you still have to live next to.
Most of our work is walk-ups, doorman buildings and tight brownstone stairs, so we plan every move around the building, not just the boxes. We book the elevator, send the certificate of insurance to your building manager and check where the truck can actually park before the day.

We charge $165 an hour for two movers and a truck with a three-hour minimum, or an agreed price for the move you describe. Most studio walk-ups run $495–$750 and most 1-bedroom moves $650–$1,100. See moving costs in NYC for a full breakdown.
Do you handle my building’s certificate of insurance (COI)?
Yes. Send us your building manager’s COI requirements and we send the certificate directly, usually the same day. We also book the freight or service elevator for you.
Are your movers employees or day labour?
Every mover is on our own payroll. We never use agency crews or strangers off a job board.
How far ahead should I book?
Two to three weeks for the end of the month, when leases turn over. Midweek and mid-month dates often have space within a few days.
Do you move to New Jersey and Westchester?
Yes. Jersey City, Hoboken and Yonkers are regular routes, and we do long-distance moves along the East Coast and beyond.
Can you move just a few items?
Yes. Our small moves and single item moves are built for exactly that.
